It’s almost the end of July and the gardens are looking great, but we’re still a month or so away from tomato sauce season. The struggle is real, so I thought now would be the perfect time to share a quick and easy pizza sauce recipe to get you through until fresh tomatoes are available.
1 can tomato paste (6oz.)
2 T. olive oil or vegetable oil
⅓-½ C. water (depending on your desired thickness)
½ T. sugar
½ t. salt
1 t. dried basil
½ t. dried oregano
¼ t. onion powder
¼ t. pepper
Prep time: 10 min
Yield: ~ 1 C. sauce
-Combine all ingredients with a whisk or spatula in a medium bowl.
-If using immediately, I would suggest cooking in a small pot on the stove on medium heat until warm but not bubbling; this will help bring the flavor out of the dried herbs. Otherwise, keep in a covered container in the fridge for up to 5 days. This also freezes and thaws well.
